Lady skier No1 in giant slalom shall compete in Borovet

Austrian Stephanie Brunner who is number one in the temporary ranking list in giant slalom for the European Cup will take part to the races for the EU Cup in Borovets. The 21 year ole alpine skier ranked 5th in giant slalom for the World Cup in Flachau, Austria less than a month ago and is among the favorites for the EU Cup for ladies.

Along with her at the starting gates in Borovets on February 12th and 13th shall compete Petra Vlahova - Slovakia. Vlahova competes in the World cup mainly in technical disciplines slalom and giant slalom. She made her debut at the  age of 17 in 2012 and won her first World cup medal in December 2015 in Ore, Sweden in slalom. In 2012 Vlahova won a golden medal at the Junior Winter Olympics and in 2014 she competes in the Sochi, Russia Olympics.

Maria Kirkova, Vera Asenova, Mihaela Kehaiova and Daniela Elinova are the lady racers to represent Bulgaria in Borovets. Our lady athletes took part to the starts in Pamporovo resort on February 9th and 10th when Vera Asenova achieved very good results. Although she is very young and with little experience in such high ranking competitions she finished 22nd in the first slalom of the EU Cup in Pamporovo on February 9ht.

This is the 12th EU Cup in Borovets and the first for ladies. The event marks the symbolic start of the festivities for the celebration of 120 years of Borovets resort founded in 1896 by the then Bulgarian king Kniaz Ferdinand and his family. The last race on the European cup calendar was just 2 years ago in 2014 when Borovets hosted the starts for men in slalom and giant slalom.

Same as previous European and World cups in Borovets the races shall take place on Popangelov run now completely ready and complying with FIS requirements. The official opening is scheduled on February 12th from 05:45 PM on the stage in front of the Rila hotel. The media conference for the event shall also be held on February 12th from 04:00 PM in Musala hall in the Rila hotel.
